Orchard Keeper's Cottage is a tastefully reconstructed self-catering cottage architecturally designed for two. Situated off the beaten track on West Lake organic farm famous for its award winning West Lake apple juices. Enjoy panoramic views over the tranquil Devon countryside and a welcome basket on arrival of all our products to include juice, cider, honey and daily eggs from our rare breed poulty. West Lake Farm offers a self-catering holiday accommodation twix moors and sea with birdsong the only noise. This year 2012 the cottage was awarded 4 stars and a Gold Award from 'Visit England'.
The cottage has an spacious open plan design with fully fitted kitchen, dining and lounge area as ground floor. Modern wet room with underfloor heating throughout. An oak staircase leads to the large mezzanine with Kingsize bed for ultimate comfort and pure cotton linen. High roof beams and open rafters give this area the 'wow' factor. A large patio window then opens onto a spacious balcony offering 180 degree views over Devon's unspoilt land where you can sit, dine or watch the night sky. A large telescope is available for those following the footseps of Brian Cox - there's a great night sky with no light pollution.
The cottage lies between moors and coast ideally situated for a variety of adventures. For walkers and cyclists there are miles of traffic free lanes, the challenging tors of Dartmoor and wonderful SW Coastal Path. Nearby Roadford Lake offers sailing and watersports with tuition. The North Coast has clean beaches and good surfing. There is trout and salmon fly fishing on local rivers - the River Taw and River Torridge. Opportunities for Coarse fishing are abundant in this area. The RHS Rosemoor is a haven for gardeners and idyllic lunch spot. Golfers can enjoy three well groomed courses and birdwatchers have easy access to Lundy Island from the ferry port of Bideford. What experiences can I enjoy during my stay?
During the spring and summer months take half an hour to join in the beekeeping sessions - beesuits provided or follow the farm's Wildlife trail down to the lake where you can picnic in total tranquility and seclusion. During August to December join in the apple pressing demonstrations press your own gallon of cider to take home. Collect the eggs from the rare breed poultry for your breakfast, feed Walter the horse his carrots. Borrow the two cycles and ride the new Ruby Way, take the body boards and hang ten on the Bude coast just 15 miles away, use the telescope to see Saturn's rings or just enjoy the peace and tranquility.
